The Head In The Game Group

Michael Jordan once observed that “80% of the game is in the head.” He identified the psychological aspects of basketball as having foundational importance in athletes’ abilities to compete at their highest levels. BIOS focuses on a spectrum of psychological research on performance. How can athletes heighten focus? How do we remain present in the moment? How can athletes be clutch performers? Adjacent to these and other psychology of sport questions, we learn about broader empirical investigations of athletes’ emotional and psychological well-being.

In this “head in the game” strand, we also learn about the brain itself. How can concussions be mitigated in sports? What features of athletes’ experiences foster brain health?
