Badger Inquiry on Sport (BIOS) conducts research on athletics and serves as a catalyst for great research and sport in Wisconsin and beyond. Through BIOS Verified, BIOS partners with sports programs across the state to strengthen practice, connect research to the everyday work of coaches and leaders, and build deeper relationships across Wisconsin.

What is BIOS Verified?

Structured Review

A structured review and feedback process for sport programs.

Evidence-Based Examination

A way to examine whether practices are rigorous, intentional, and aligned with existing research and science.

External Recognition

An external sign that a program is using cutting-edge, research-informed practices.

The Process

Submit

The program submits a robust description of its work, ideas, routines, and practices.

BIOS Review

BIOS fellows, researchers, and staff review the submission.

Feedback Meeting

The BIOS team meets with program personnel to discuss strengths, questions, and recommendations.

Revision & Response

About 1–2 weeks later, the program presents its response and revisions.

Verification Decision

BIOS determines whether the program earns BIOS Verified status.

Criteria and Value: How Programs Earn and Benefit from BIOS Verified Status

Programs seeking BIOS Verified status should demonstrate clear alignment with at least four of the six Bell Cow Standards used in the Master’s in Sports Leadership program.

Ethical Practice

Acts with integrity, transparency, accountability, and sound judgment.

Leadership Research & Theory

Uses evidence-based practice and draws thoughtfully from research.

Communication

Communicates clearly with athletes, staff, families, and other stakeholders.

Impact Beyond Sport

Uses sport to promote broader growth, community, and social good.
